Description
This intensive, one-day Continuous Medical Education (CME) activity equips healthcare providers and counselors with essential, updated skills in general HIV counseling. The training focuses on client-centered communication, pre- and post-test counseling, disclosure management, and psychosocial support across diverse patient populations. Through practical case studies and interactive sessions, participants will gain actionable strategies to conduct effective treatment adherence counseling, address stigma, support mental health, and improve long-term retention in HIV care.
Objectives
By the end of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Deliver effective pre- and post-test HIV counseling that promotes informed consent and immediate linkage to care.
2. Conduct targeted adherence counseling to identify and overcome barriers to lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART) compliance.
3. Facilitate safe and supportive disclosure processes for clients, couples, and families affected by HIV.
4. Screen for and address common psychosocial challenges, mental health concerns, and stigma affecting HIV-positive individuals.
5. Utilize evidence-based counseling techniques to improve client retention and self-management within the HIV care continuum.
