Description

The training, titled H.I.E Presentation, focuses on the clinical management of Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), with particular emphasis on therapeutic hypothermia (cooling therapy), multidisciplinary NICU management, and a case-based review from the KUTRRH NICU. The presentation reviews the pathophysiology of HIE, eligibility and implementation of cooling therapy, management of associated multisystem complications, seizure control, family-centered care, and quality improvement strategies for neonatal intensive care services. A detailed case study is used to evaluate clinical management, identify strengths and documentation gaps, and highlight best practices in neonatal neuroprotection and critical care.

Objectives

By the end of the training, participants should be able to: Recognize and classify neonatal HIE early. Initiate and safely manage therapeutic hypothermia within the recommended treatment window. Provide evidence-based multidisciplinary care for infants with HIE. Monitor and manage complications affecting multiple organ systems. Improve documentation, clinical governance, family engagement, and quality improvement practices within the NICU.
