Description
This program was conducted for Kenyan interventional cardiologists to strengthen knowledge and technical skills in PCI for complex lesions and to improve safe responses to procedural complications. Three days of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training were delivered at Terumo Medical Pranex, followed by hospital-based clinical training at Tokyo Saiseikai Central Hospital on the final day. The program was supported by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan and the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS)
Objectives
CTO Case Strategy and Use of Imaging
Participants used information obtained from CT and IVUS to develop treatment strategies for CTO cases. Discussions
with Japanese faculty covered case preparation, guidewire selection, switching approaches, and interpretation of
imaging findings
Angio-based 3D
Participants learned how to use angiographic images to understand vascular anatomy in three dimensions and apply
this information to procedural planning for complex lesions. A demonstration was followed by simulator-based
practice.Tip Detection and Guidewire Control
Participants learned concepts and techniques for accurately identifying guidewire-tip position and movement and
manipulating the wire safely. Following faculty demonstrations, participants practiced repeatedly in small groups.CTO Retrograde Approach
